 Nohad El Shami,
a mother of 12 children from
the Jbeil district, was 55 years
old at the time of the miracle.
She suffered paralysis, and
medical reports stated that
she suffered a partial paralysis
resulting from atherosclerosis
in the neck. She took oil and
soil from St Charbel’s
grave. One night, she dreamed
she was in the hermitage where
St Charbel gave her the Holy
Communion. On January 22nd,
1993, she felt a splitting pain
in her head. So she asked St
Charbel and the Virgin Mary
for either a cure or death.
After sleeping at 11:00 pm,
in a dream, she saw a beam of
light and two monks standing
next to her bed. One of them
placed his hand on her neck
and operated on it, while the
other monk placed a cushion
behind her back.
Upon waking up, she found two
wounds in her neck. This led
to her full health, and she
was completely cured. It was
a great surprise to relatives
and neighbours. Everyone was
sure of Nohad’s paralysis
cure which was through St Charbel.
The following night, St Charbel
appeared to her and said, “I
operated on you for people to
see and return to the faith.
I ask of you to visit the hermitage
on the 22nd of every month,
and attend mass for the rest
of your life.”
From then on, on the 22nd of
each month, Nohad goes to Annaya
followed by multitudes from
all directions to see, once,
twice, three and four times,
the amazing miracle which was
performed by St Charbel.
Nohad El Shami still lives in
Jbeil district and is known
from everybody.
